SAVO PUGEL

Savo Pugel was born in Slovenija. He started his vocal studies with Prof. Francel-Rudolf at the Musikhochschule in Ljubljana. During and after his education he participated in several Master courses, like with Vincenco la Ferla (Belcanto) and Gaetano Bardini in Florence. After early guest engagements at the National Theatres of Ljubljana, Maribor, Rijeka and Klagenfurt, Savo Pugel came to Germany for the first time in 1988. When his engagements directed him to Bielefeld, he decided to study further at the Musikhochschule in Münster with Prof. Peter Ziethen. Dimitar Berov and Peter Gugolov in Berlin also coached him.

From 1994 until 2004, Savo Pugel was in Hagen and Dessau engaged as a Jugendlicher Heldentenor. Regular guest roles took him to Hannover, Annaberg-Buchholz, Halle and Bremen. Savo Pugel sang Simon in Bettelstudent and Zarewitsch in the operetta Zarewitsch von Franz Lehar at the well-known Sommerfestspiellen in Xanten with conductor Maciej Figas. Savo Pugel has collaborated with a number of well-known directors like Walter Felsenstein, Gottfried H. Wagner, Willy Decker and Gerhard Platiel. He sang with conductors like Prof. Daniel Lipton, Bertrand de Billy, Gerhard Markson, Anthony Hermus and others. Further concerts lead him to Berlin, Hannover, Barcelona and Bolzano.

Career highlights have included Don Carlo, Carlo (Verdi’s I Masnadieri), Andrea Chenier, Ismaele (Nabucco), Cavaradossi (Tosca) and Casio (Otello), as also roles in the German and Russian Fach as Walther von der Vogelweide (Tannhäuser), Jaquino (Fidelio) and Dimitri (Boris Goudonov).

Savo Pugel sang also a number of operetta roles as Raymond in Maske in Blau, the Prinz Sou Chong in Land des Lächelns, the Zarewitsch, and Alfred in Die Fledermaus.

Savo Pugels studied and understudied operatic roles include also Il Duca from Rigoletto, Alfredo from La Traviata, Ricardo from Un ballo di maschera and Turidu from Cavaleria Rusticana.
